KLANGHAUS UNTERGREITH PROJECTS
Our work is rooted inthe ‘here and now’,always looking towards the future.
The Klangzeit festivals are designed to make a significant contribution to regional cultural diversity, artistic excellence, education and sustainability, audience participation and to enrich our valuable arts and cultural landscape. With the Klangzeit festivals, we create a platform for art that is necessarily free, we communicate and present new art and culture, and we create networks between ourselves, our artists and partner groups in the region, in the landscape and in broader society across borders.
KLANGZEIT FESTIVALS
take place three times a year. We invite local and international artists and organise events that are characterised by diversity and openness. Our festivals serve as a platform and space for encounters, exchange, networking and dialogue, especially between artists and visitors. The shared experience of art is central to the atmosphere and narrative of our cultural offerings. In summer and autumn, the Klangzeit Festivals take place in Untergreith. We also take our projects and initiatives across borders throughout the entire Alps-Adriatic region at regular intervals. Through our presence and events in Slovenia, Croatia and Italy, we have created a lasting platform and increased visibility and audibility for a wide range of Styrian artists in new regional synergies.
GLOBAL KIDS
is a participatory programme offering young people the opportunity to experience and learn new creative tools. By taking part in artistic and creative workshops with renowned artists, participants of various age groups experience new things on many levels. In addition to enjoying music, dance, movement, language or intermedia creativity, participants experience what it means to be artistically active, to create together and to see things differently. What they learn, e.g. in an improvisation workshop for all abilities, leaves them with skills and approaches that also have a formative and beneficial effect in everyday life. Through their children, parents and families also participate and experience the significance and added value of participating in art and culture.
ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE
Klanghaus Sankt Johann runs an artist in residence programme for artists who are invited to work in the Klanghaus studio, present their works in the Klanghaus gallery and to offer workshops and seminars for local residents, children and young people from regional schools and music groups.
Artists come to south-western Styria (often for the first time) and immerse themselves in the environment. During their stay, they get to know the people and the landscape and have space to develop their work. The primarily site-specific works created during the residencies are presented not only at Klanghaus but also at other locations. In this respect, our residents also act as ambassadors for Untergreith and south-western Styria.
NETWORKING, DISCOURSE AND DIALOGUE
A new programme point starting in 2026 is an additional emphasis on conversation and dialogue. As part of our public events, there will be exchanges between artists and visitors, but beyond that, panel discussions, symposia and other discussion formats will also be used to promote active dialogue. We are convinced that political change in the State of Styria, in Austria and internationally is a symptom of various social developments that can be mitigated through communication and openness. We see an urgent need to share these working methods and approaches in conversation and to create a platform for dialogue within our cultural work.
