Klangzeit Festival – Autumn: "between languages between people"

What happens when people meet before they speak the same language? What do closeness, unfamiliarity, memory, and understanding sound like? And what forms of communication emerge where words reach their limits?

Under the motto “between languages – between people” (zwischensprachen – zwischenmenschen), the Klangzeit Festival 2026 is dedicated to the spaces in between human encounters. The focus is on sound as an independent language—as a medium of exchange, disruption, and connection. The festival brings together artistic positions that explore the diverse relationships between people, cultures, and forms of expression, opening up new spaces for listening.

The title refers to the areas of tension in our present time: between origin and arrival, the familiar and the foreign, individual and community, language and sound.

The invited artists explore acoustic border zones, hybrid sound worlds, and process-oriented forms of musical expression. Their works navigate between composition, improvisation, electroacoustic music, and performance, creating sound spaces in which cultural, social, and linguistic boundaries become permeable.

“between languages – between people” understands encounters as an open process—as a space for negotiation, curiosity, and creative transformation. The festival invites us to perceive the space in between not as a separation, but as an opportunity: as a place where listening becomes understanding, and where sound creates connections when language alone is not enough.
